This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..

Original story (published on August 26, 2020) follows:

Nokia unveiled the Nokia 3.1 Plus back in October 2018. The device is powered by the MediaTek MT6762 Helio P22 coupled with 2-3GB of RAM and a 3500mAh battery. The device ran Android 8.1.1 Oreo out of the box and has since received regular updates and a few Android version updates.

Being part of the Android One program, the Nokia 3.1 Plus is expected to bag at least two updates and as such, is in line for an update to Android 10. However, that is where things begin to get a little hazy for users of the 3.1 Plus.

Back in late May, we saw the Nokia 3.1 Plus officially get updated to Android 10. This update brought with it all the features we expect from Android 10 and the April 2020 security patch.

However, all was not well with this build as users soon started complaining of issues such as push notifications not working correctly among many other little bugs. Nokia came through and pushed the May security patch based on Android 10, supposedly meant to address the issues in the initial rollout.

Even then, Nokia 3.1 Plus users started reporting issues when installing this May update, some not being able to update their Nokia 3.1 Plus to Android 10 at all. With that, we now had two groups of Nokia 3.1 Plus users; a section that was running Android 10 and a good number that were unable to update to Android 10.

As a result, HMD seemingly halted the rollout of Android 10, effectively solidifying these two groups of users. Nokia then proceeded to push the May security patch and later June security patch based on Android Pie to the 3.1 Plus a month later.

Fast-forward to the present day and at the time of writing, Nokia is yet to re-release Android 10 for the Nokia 3.1 Plus. With that, there is a group of Nokia 3.1 Plus users that successfully updated their devices to Android 10 and they’re stuck with the April or May 2020 security patch.

Nokia continues to roll out regular Android 9-based security patch updates to the Nokia 3.1 Plus and at the time of writing, users with Nokia 3.1 Plus running Android 9 Pie can update their devices to the June 2020 security patch.

Even as that happens, frustration continues to mount among device owners. These users have taken to various platforms demanding answers from Nokia, but the company has remained quiet on the situation, leaving users in limbo.

Update 1 (September 01)

IST: 05:32 pm: Being part of the Android One program, we expected some fast-paced updates for the Nokia 3.1 Plus but the device is yet to get hold of the Android 10. Nokia has just started pushing August security patch update based on Android Pie and the users may need to wait a little longer for the Android 10 update to arrive.
